World Mental Health Day is an international day for mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma. It was first celebrated in 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health.

Vale of Clwyd Mind marked the date with a special celebration event at its Rhyl headquarters which was very well attended. It was a pleasure to welcome the Deputy Mayor of Rhyl, Cllr Ms Cheryl Williams and her Consort, Mrs Ann Jones.

During the morning our members took part in art and craft activities and in the afternoon our musical groups (Meatballs, Mind Tones and Prestatyn Strummers) entertained and succeeded in getting the audience joining in!

Lee Davies, Music Group Leader also introduced Orrin Meades from Lakes Craft Box who attended to deliver 10 Cigar Box Ukeleles. These had been purchased after a donation was received from the family of the late John Davies who was a former member. The family raised over £600 at John’s funeral and as John was known as “Cigar Box John” it seemed appropriate to respect his memory by using the donation to buy these special instruments for our members. We would again like to thank John’s family for this generous donation.
